About Richard

Richard Schwamm is a full-time mediator focusing on significant personal injury and medical malpractice matters. He brings more than thirty years of litigation experience to his mediation practice, having handled complex, high-exposure cases on both the defense and plaintiff sides.

Early in his career, Richard represented hospitals, physicians, and insurance carriers in the defense of medical malpractice and catastrophic injury claims. He later transitioned to representing injured patients and their families in serious personal injury and medical malpractice litigation. This rare, 360° perspective allows him to understand not only the legal and medical issues in dispute, but also the strategic, financial, and emotional considerations driving each side’s decision-making.

As a mediator, Richard is known for being thoroughly prepared, even-handed, and pragmatic. He creates an environment that encourages candid dialogue, thoughtful risk analysis, and productive problem-solving. Drawing on decades of courtroom and negotiation experience, he helps parties realistically evaluate their positions and move toward durable resolution.

Richard is committed to providing high-quality neutral services and assisting counsel and their clients in resolving even the most complex and hard-fought cases.

Professional Philosophy

Richard approaches mediation with the belief that meaningful resolution begins with preparation, clarity, and credibility. Having spent more than three decades litigating complex medical malpractice and catastrophic injury cases, he understands the legal arguments, strategic pressures, and decision-making dynamics that shape each side’s position.

His role as a mediator is not to tell parties they are wrong, but to help them see the case through a more complete and realistic lens. By drawing on experience from both sides of the courtroom, Richard helps counsel and clients evaluate risk, test assumptions, and move negotiations toward informed and practical resolution.

SchwammADR focuses on creating an environment where candid discussions can take place without posturing or gamesmanship, allowing parties to address both the legal and human dimensions of high-stakes disputes.
